Dmitry Matveyev

Senior .NET engineer and tech lead. I spend my days pulling enterprise systems out of the past — and my evenings building small products for people who care about their animals.

About

Ten-plus years of hands-on .NET development, with a stretch of technical leadership in the middle. My specialty is legacy modernization: moving applications from .NET Framework to .NET 8, migrating databases, and breaking monoliths into services that can actually be deployed independently.

For the past year I've been folding LLMs into daily engineering work — Claude and Copilot, subagents, MCP servers — to move faster without letting code quality slide. I'm equally comfortable as an individual contributor and as the person responsible for a team.

On a personal note: I built EverPal after losing my cat to kidney disease, and while managing ongoing digestive issues with my current one. It's the kind of problem you only really understand once you've lived it at 3 a.m. with a notebook.

Selected work

Things I've shipped that moved a real number.

.NET 4.7 → .NET 8

Migrated an enterprise Web API layer

Auth (OWIN → ASP.NET Core), DI infrastructure, ORM, business logic and PDF operations. Eliminated ~15 legacy or deprecated dependencies and modernized the CI/CD pipelines along the way.

~350 GB

Of unused indexes removed

Cutting roughly 38.8M wasted reads per day. In the same production push: diagnosed a memory leak with a dump-comparison tool I built (root cause — an incorrect DI lifetime registration), and cleared a 21-month archival backlog of 1.5M records via batched deletion.

CosmosDB → MongoDB

Drove a platform migration

Initiated and led the move to reduce infrastructure costs and get out from under platform limitations we kept hitting.

5 → 9 engineers

Scaled and led a team

Hired three developers and a system architect, ran the technical interviews, and introduced Scrum — which cut estimation variance and gave stakeholders visibility they didn't have before.

Event-driven

Rebuilt logging on Azure Event Hubs

Replaced direct database logging with a centralized pipeline syncing to both cloud and on-premises databases, reducing infrastructure cost.

1+ year

AI-assisted delivery in production work

Integrating LLMs into everyday engineering: configured subagents, wired up MCP servers for routine tasks, and worked out which model to reach for when.

One tap to log what your pet just did. One page to show your vet.

When a pet is sick, the vet asks: how often, since when, what did it look like? Most owners guess. EverPal users tap one of six big buttons — poop, pee, vomit, food, meds, other — and hand over a dated list. Logging is free, needs no account, and works offline; the printable vet report is a one-time unlock.

The first version was a full-stack product I built solo: .NET 8 API, React 19, PostgreSQL, Firebase Auth, Stripe subscriptions, server-side PDFs. Then I rebuilt it as static files — no backend, no accounts, data in the browser — because logging has to start in zero seconds. Cutting it down was the harder engineering call.

Around it: privacy-first analytics (anonymous events, bot filtering) to measure activation and return rate, a free printable log as an SEO landing page, and Playwright end-to-end tests covering the paywall, offline mode, backups, the install prompt and service-worker updates.

Stack: Vanilla JS · installable PWA (offline service worker) · Stripe Payment Links · privacy-first PostHog analytics · Playwright E2E · Vercel

EverPal on a phone: six one-tap buttons (poop, pee, vomit, food, meds, other) above a history grouped by day
